Terms & Conditions
Scope and Applicability
These Terms and Conditions apply specifically to the hire and use of Green Waste Tweed’s General/Mixed Waste trailer skips. They are distinct from the terms governing Green Waste-only skips and outline the rules for disposing of general household and mixed waste. Different handling procedures and pricing structures apply for general/mixed waste skips versus green waste skips. By hiring a general/mixed waste trailer skip, you agree to adhere to the conditions below, in addition to any standard trailer hire terms provided by Green Waste Tweed.
Separate Service from Green Waste: General/mixed waste skips are provided as a separate service from green waste disposal. Trailers designated for general or mixed waste will be clearly identified and must be hired separately from green waste–only skips. Green Waste Tweed strictly prohibits non-organic rubbish in green waste skips, so any non-green waste must be placed only in a general/mixed waste trailer. If you have both green and general waste, you must either hire two separate skips or specifically request a “mixed waste” skip (which permits a combination of green and general waste in one trailer). Mixing waste types in the incorrect skip is a violation of these terms and may result in additional charges as described below.
Acceptable Waste Materials (General/Mixed Waste Skips)
General/mixed waste trailer skips are designed for non-hazardous solid waste, typically found in household cleanups, light construction debris, and miscellaneous junk. The following items are permitted in a general/mixed waste skip (examples include but are not limited to):
Household Rubbish & Junk: General domestic waste, including old toys, clothes, books, packaging materials, kitchenware, and similar non-putrescible items. This includes office and commercial clean-up waste, such as paper, cardboard, plastics, and foam. All such waste should be dry and free of food or liquid contaminants.
Furniture & Bulky Items: Old furniture (tables, chairs, sofas, bed frames), mattresses, cabinetry, and other bulk items from home or office clear-outs. We recommend breaking down large items when possible to optimise space. Ensure appliances or furniture with doors (e.g., refrigerators) are secured or have their doors removed for safety.
White Goods & Appliances: Non-hazardous appliances and electronics, such as refrigerators, washing machines, microwaves, ovens, televisions, and computers, are accepted. Please drain any oils or fuels from appliances (e.g. lawnmowers, chainsaws) before disposal. Refrigerators, freezers, and air conditioners should have their refrigerants evacuated by a licensed technician if required by law. (Note: While e-waste and whitegoods are accepted in our general skips, they contain components that require remarkable recycling. We will handle their proper processing, but you may also use designated e-waste recycling services as an alternative.)
Light Construction and Renovation Waste: Renovation debris from household projects, including timber off-cuts, plywood, drywall (gyprock) sheets, plasterboard, cabinetry, broken tiles, glass panels, scrap metals, drywall screws/nails, and similar materials. Lightweight building rubble is allowed in small quantities (see weight limits below) – for example, a few leftover bricks or pavers, a toilet or sink, or a small amount of concrete debris mixed in with other waste is acceptable. However, large volumes of masonry or rubble should not be placed in a general waste skip (see Prohibited Items and Weight Limits sections).
Garden & Yard Waste (Mixed Loads): General skips may include organic green waste (leaves, grass clippings, branches, wood chips, etc.) in combination with other rubbish (this would be considered a “mixed waste” load). If you have a mix of yard waste and general junk, it is acceptable in a mixed waste trailer. (However, if your load is primarily green waste with minimal other materials, consider hiring a dedicated green waste skip for lower pricing.) Green waste included in a general or mixed skip will be handled as general waste for disposal purposes and charged under the general or mixed waste rates.
All permitted waste must be non-hazardous and lawful to dispose of at a general waste facility. If you are unsure whether an item is allowed, please get in touch with Green Waste Tweed for guidance before placing it in the skip. As a general rule, most common household items and light building materials are acceptable, while anything toxic, regulated, or likely to cause harm is not (see below).
Prohibited and Excluded Items
For safety, legal, and environmental reasons, certain materials may NOT be placed in general/mixed waste trailer skips under any circumstances. Prohibited items include, but are not limited to:
Asbestos or Asbestos-Containing Materials: Absolutely no asbestos or products containing asbestos fibres (e.g. fibro cement sheeting from older buildings) are allowed. Asbestos is a hazardous material and is strictly regulated – it requires specialist removal and disposal by licensed facilities. Do NOT attempt to dispose of asbestos in any Green Waste Tweed skip.
Hazardous Chemicals and Substances: Any form of chemicals, solvents, acids, pesticides, herbicides, fertilisers, wet paint**, ** or other toxic or volatile substances is prohibited. This includes items like tins of paint (unless completely dried out), paint thinners, petrol, kerosene, diesel, antifreeze, household or industrial chemicals, pool chemicals, cleaning agents, fertilisers, etc. Empty chemical containers or drums are also disallowed unless thoroughly rinsed and certified clean, due to residue. These substances pose serious health, fire, and environmental risks and must be disposed of through appropriate hazardous waste programs, not in skips
Flammable or Pressurised Items: Gas bottles/cylinders, LPG tanks, propane bottles, butane canisters, aerosol spray cans, fire extinguishers, or any pressurised containers are strictly forbidden. Even if “empty,” they can explode or leak toxic gases. Similarly, fuel, oil, or other flammable liquids (including used motor oil, gasoline, diesel, and lamp oil) cannot be placed in the skip. Remove any fuel or oil from machinery or tanks before disposing of them.
Batteries (All Types): Car batteries, lithium batteries, lead-acid batteries, UPS batteries, and any large or industrial batteries are not permitted. Batteries contain hazardous chemicals (such as acids and lead) and can cause fires or leach toxins. Please take batteries to designated recycling or disposal facilities. (Small household alkaline batteries in minimal quantities may be accepted if sealed in a plastic bag and placed on top of the load, but it’s recommended to use battery recycling programs instead.)
Tyres and Rubber: Vehicle tyres (for cars, trucks, motorcycles, and bicycles) are generally not accepted in waste skips without prior arrangement. Tyres are a controlled waste that cannot be landfilled without special processing and attract extra disposal fees. Green Waste Tweed does not accept tyres in a mixed or general skip hire unless explicitly agreed upon (additional charges will apply). Similarly, large pieces of rubber or conveyor belts are excluded.
Putrescible Waste: Food waste, grocery scraps, animal carcasses, manure, dead animals, or any other organic matter that can rot or cause odour must not be placed in the skip. This includes household garbage that contains food remnants or any other biodegradable waste. Such waste can attract vermin and create health hazards or offensive Odors. Dispose of putrescible waste via council garbage bins or specialised services instead. (Note: Dried Garden vegetation is fine – this restriction is mainly for food and animal by-products.)
Medical and Biological Waste: Medical, clinical, or biohazardous waste is strictly prohibited. This includes needles/sharps, syringes, bandages, gloves, sanitary napkins, diapers (nappies), or any material contaminated with bodily fluids. Medical/pharmaceutical waste (expired medicines, medical equipment) and Pathological waste are not allowed. These items pose infection and contamination risks and require disposal through licensed medical waste contractors.
Hazardous Materials (General): Any toxic, poisonous, corrosive, or reactive substances not already listed above are forbidden. This catch-all category includes (but is not limited to) things like pesticides, poisons, radioactive materials, explosives or fireworks, ammunition, strong acids/alkalis, fibreglass insulation materials, contaminated soil (soil with chemical or fuel contamination), or any regulated waste under NSW law. If an item requires special handling or has regulatory disposal restrictions, it should not be placed in a general skip.
Liquids of Any Kind: No liquids are to be placed in the skip bin, whether contained or free. This means no buckets or drums of liquid, no sealed jars or bottles of liquids, and no liquid sewage or sludge. Even paint must be dried out; oil must be absorbed or in solid form, etc. Landfills do not accept liquid waste, and leaks can occur during transport. Ensure all waste is solid (or rendered solid by absorption) before disposing of it.
Prohibited Electronics: While most electronic waste (e-waste) is accepted as general waste in our skips, certain special electronic items that are regulated (like devices containing radioactive sources or large lithium battery banks) are not allowed. If you have a question about a specific electronic item, please don't hesitate to inquire. (Standard household electronics are delicate; this exclusion is only for unusual hazardous electronics.)
Excessive Heavy Materials: As a general waste service, large quantities of heavy construction debris are not permitted. Soil, sand, rubble, bricks, concrete, rocks, tiles, or other dense materials in bulk should not be loaded into a standard trailer skip. A few small pieces mixed in are acceptable (see Acceptable Materials), but filling a skip primarily with soil, bricks, masonry, or similar materials will exceed weight limits and is not permitted. If you need to dispose of a significant volume of these heavy materials, please contact us to discuss alternate solutions (such as multiple smaller loads or a specialised heavy waste skip). In summary, a general/mixed waste trailer is for light to medium-weight waste. It is not designed for full loads of bricks, concrete or dirt.
Note: The above list of exclusions is not exhaustive. Green Waste Tweed reserves the right to deem any material as prohibited if it poses a risk or cannot be lawfully disposed of in a general waste stream. These restrictions align with NSW environmental regulations and industry standards in the skip bin sector. If you are unsure about any item, please obtain clarification from us before placing it in the skip. Unapproved materials discovered in the skip will be treated as a breach of these terms (see Non-Compliance section).
Loading and Capacity Requirements
To ensure safe transport and compliance with road laws, customers must adhere to the following loading rules for trailer skips:
Weight Limits: Do not overload the skip by weight. Each trailer skip has a maximum load capacity determined by its design and road safety regulations. Under NSW law, a trailer cannot carry more than its rated Aggregate Trailer Mass (ATM) – the maximum weight the trailer is engineered to handle. For example, our 5m³ trailer skips can safely carry approximately 750 kg of waste, and our 10m³ trailer skips can carry up to 1500 kg of garbage at most. These limits are based on the trailer’s legal capacity and towing safety, not just company policy. Exceeding the weight limit is dangerous and may violate road transport laws. Do not fill the skip with heavy materials past these weight allowances. If you are disposing of dense waste (e.g., masonry, soil), ensure that only a small volume is included so that the total weight remains within legal limits. Green Waste Tweed may weigh the skip if overweight is suspected. Overloaded skips will not be transported. You will be responsible for removing or reducing any excess weight if the load is too heavy to haul safely. Any costs associated with managing an overweight load (e.g. extra labour, equipment, or fines) will be charged to the customer.
Fill Level (No Overfilling): Do not load the skip above its sides or designated fill line. All waste must fit within the trailer skip (below the top edge of the bin or cage). Overfilling past the rim or above the height of the trailer’s cage/sides is strictly prohibited. By law, an overfilled skip that cannot be securely covered for transport cannot be moved. Our drivers must be able to place a cover or tarp over the load to prevent debris from escaping. If any part of the load sticks out above the top or beyond the sides, the skip is overfull. In such cases, the driver may refuse to collect the skip until the excess is removed. Do NOT “pile up” waste in an attempt to fit more than the skip’s volume; this creates safety hazards. If a skip is found to be overfilled at the time of collection, we reserve the right to remove and leave behind the excess items to level the load or to delay pickup until the overfill is corrected. Any materials left behind due to overfilling are the customer’s responsibility. For safety, please load the skip evenly and keep contents below the top rail at all times
Securing the Load: The contents of the trailer should be packed stably to prevent shifting during transit. All loose light items (e.g., polystyrene, paper, plastic film) should be bagged or secured to prevent them from blowing away. Do not place heavy items on top of lighter ones, as this could cause them to collapse or spill. Our staff will cover the skip before transport (assuming it’s not overfilled) to secure the load further. However, primary responsibility for safe loading lies with the customer. If our driver deems a load unsafe (due to improper loading, risk of falling debris, etc.), you will be required to adjust the load before the trailer can be moved.
Rights of Refusal and Additional Charges for Non-Compliance
By hiring a general/mixed waste trailer skip, the customer agrees to follow all the above rules regarding acceptable materials and safe loading. Green Waste Tweed reserves the right to refuse service, reject pickup, or apply additional charges if the skip is misused or loaded in a manner that violates these Terms and Conditions. Specific remedies and consequences include:
Refusal or Suspension of Pickup: If upon arrival for pickup, the trailer skip is found to contain prohibited items or is overfilled/overweight, the Company may refuse to collect the skip until the issue is remedied. The driver will inform you (the customer) of the non-compliance, and you must promptly remove any forbidden materials or excess load to bring the skip into compliance. The scheduled pickup may be aborted at the Company’s discretion, and you may incur a wasted trip fee or need to reschedule pickup after rectification. The hire will not be deemed complete (and additional hire fees may continue to accrue) until the skip is compliant and can be removed. In egregious cases (e.g. visible hazardous waste like asbestos, or willful disregard of terms), the Company may immediately terminate the hire on the spot and decline to haul the skip. Any waste left on your site in such an event will be your responsibility to dispose of in a lawful manner.
Unloading of Prohibited Waste: Green Waste Tweed’s personnel are not obligated to sort through your waste, but if prohibited items are observed, we may extract or isolate those items and leave them behind. For example, if a car battery or gas cylinder is spotted in the skip, the driver may remove it from the trailer and leave it at the premises, notifying you of the removal. This ensures we do not transport illegal materials. The customer will be responsible for properly disposing of any items removed. The Company accepts no liability for any loss or damage relating to items removed from an illegal load under this clause.
Additional Disposal/Handling Fees: If any excluded items or contamination are discovered after collection (for instance, at the sorting facility or landfill), the customer will be liable for all additional costs incurred. Improper items can lead to substantial fees or fines from disposal facilities. For example, a tyre or mattress hidden in the skip might incur a special disposal surcharge; asbestos contamination can result in expensive remediation fees or regulatory fines. The Company will pass on these charges to you, along with any reasonable administrative or handling fees for managing the issue. Misrepresenting the waste type (e.g., booking a green waste skip but filling it with general waste, or vice versa) will result in the reclassification of the load and additional charges. In line with industry practice, if you dispose of waste not specified in your booking, additional charges may apply after the skip is collected to cover the actual disposal cost. Green Waste Tweed may charge the difference in price between a green waste skip and a general waste skip, plus an administration fee, if general waste is found in a green waste trailer.
Cleaning and Damage Fees: The skip is provided for appropriate use; if misuse of the skip (such as spilling paint or chemicals inside it, or physical damage from overloading beyond capacity) causes the need for decontamination or repairs, the customer may be charged the reasonable costs of cleaning, repairing or decommissioning the trailer. This includes any fees for the safe removal of hazardous substances that have been illegally placed in the skip.
Legal Liability: The customer acknowledges that placing prohibited waste in the skip or otherwise violating these Terms may subject them to legal liability. Suppose the Company or its staff incur any fines, penalties, or legal liabilities (for example, from Council, EPA, RMS, or WorkCover) due to the customer’s breach of these Terms. In that case, the customer agrees to indemnify and fully reimburse the Company for all such costs. This includes environmental clean-up costs, regulatory fines, or third-party claims resulting from improper contents of the skip. Essentially, any legal consequences resulting from illegal waste disposal will be attributed to the person who loaded the waste.
No Illegal Activity: The customer warrants that the waste being disposed of is their own or that they have the right to dispose of it, and that such waste does not include any stolen or illicit items. The Company reserves the right to report suspicious or unlawful materials to authorities. Any attempt to use the skip hire service for illegal dumping will result in immediate termination of service without refund, and potential referral to law enforcement or environmental regulators.
Other Operational Terms
Hire Period and Access: The standard hire period and any daily rates or extensions for trailer skip hire are as stated in your booking agreement or invoice. The customer is responsible for providing safe and adequate access for the delivery and pickup of the trailer. Ensure there is sufficient clearance for our vehicle and that the placement location is firm and level to support the loaded trailer. Once positioned, do not attempt to relocate or tow the trailer yourself – moving the skip is strictly the Company’s responsibility for safety and insurance reasons. The trailer skip must remain at the delivery address unless the Company gives written permission to move it. If you require an extended hire or early pickup, please get in touch with us to arrange it (additional charges may apply for extended hire).
Liability for Property Damage: Green Waste Tweed will take all due care when delivering and retrieving the trailer skip. However, the customer is responsible for ensuring the chosen location for the skip is suitable (e.g. clear of low-hanging wires or tree branches, and on stable ground). By requesting placement of the trailer on a particular spot (e.g. driveway or lawn), you assume responsibility for any potential damage to that surface or surrounding area. The Company is not liable for minor damages to lawns, driveways, pavements or underground services caused by the regular operation of the loaded trailer on your property, except in cases of gross negligence by our operators. We use trailers to minimise such damage (unlike heavy skip trucks), and in practice, our service is designed to be gentle on your property; nonetheless, standard precautions apply.
No Unsafe Materials or Activities: The customer must not light fires in the skip, compact the waste with excavators or machinery, or add waste after the agreed-upon pickup time. The skip must not be used for any purpose other than temporary waste storage as per these terms. Children or unauthorized persons should not climb in or on the trailer skip. The customer assumes responsibility for any injury or damage that may occur to third parties due to the skip’s presence and agrees to take reasonable steps to ensure the skip is used safely and not tampered with by others during the hire period (for example, you may consider securing the trailer or covering it when not in use to prevent others from adding prohibited waste or overfilling it without your knowledge).
Privacy and Data Use: Privacy and Data Use
Green Waste Tweed is committed to protecting your privacy. Customer information collected during the booking process will be used solely for the purpose of providing waste disposal services and related customer support. Your information will not be shared with third parties without your consent, except where required by law (such as in compliance with NSW regulatory authorities or law enforcement).
We may retain records for administrative and legal purposes in accordance with our internal data retention policies. By proceeding with a booking, you consent to the collection and use of your information in accordance with this clause and our broader privacy practices.
Severability: If any provision of these Terms is held invalid or unenforceable under the law, that provision shall be interpreted or modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable, or else severed, and the remaining provisions shall remain in full effect.
Governing Law: These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of the State of New South Wales. The customer agrees to submit to the jurisdiction of the courts of New South Wales for any disputes arising under this agreement.
